June Technical Section and General Meeting

Hello

Coming up in June is a great Technical Section for this coming Sunday and our General Meeting in June is dedicated to Ladies and Partners.

ROLLS-ROYCE TECHNICAL – Sunday June 2 at LGSI from 10.30 am

It was good to give our cars a good workout on the Overlander to Noosa.  The cars were all well prepared with only a couple of minor issues quickly sorted out and all made the 2000km journey easily despite torrential rain conditions at time. Reports from drivers indicated "the car went better every day" demonstrating that they are not only showpieces, they need to be driven. Most of the driving conditions were at 110kmh, the two older cars on the trip driven by Tom Clarke (Silver Dawn) and Brent Baker (MKV1) happily kept up with the more modern cars at these speeds in the rain.

The immaculate Shadow driven by Larry Picker was usually the first to arrive each day. Congratulations to Larry after driving the Shadow in all the rain, then preparing the car for concours and winning the class against a large number of entrants. This is a tribute to our Technical Sessions where Larry has learnt and applied a lot of effort into bringing an original tired Shadow up to a Federal concours standard. Well done!

On a more Technical note: the 50s series of 6-cylinder models have copper ignition leads and over time depending how they are stored and driven, moisture can build up in the distributor cap top where the two screws contain the lid and the ignition lead develop corrosion and subsequent arcing and misfiring.   Additionally, the coil lead suppressor and plug lead ends can suffer the same fate.  All these connections need to be checked as part of routine service.  Come along on Sunday where we will be providing some practical tips and advice regarding the checking, servicing and rectification of these electrical parts.

Join us for the next Technical day on the 2nd of June at L.G.S.I. 10.30 AM

GENERAL MEETING:  LADIES AND PARTNERS – Thursday June 13 at BAH from 7.30 pm

Mark this in your diary now as soon as you read this as it will be a very interesting evening.

We have two of our more recently joined lady members and their cars coming along to address the meeting with their experiences of ownership and driving their very fine motor cars.

Fanny Lie, daughter of Jane King, owner of the magnificent 1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III James Young with division, who will be accompanied by her husband, Ben Dagge and Catheryne Collett, owner of a wonderful 2004 Bentley Continental GT.

This is a special night for our Ladies and Partners, we have these two fine cars on display and we will celebrate with a special supper, accompanied by some “Bubbles and Chocolates.”

Please bring your partners and enjoy an evening that is going to be different than our usual General Meeting.

I am really looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at these great events.

Your president
